Ricky Karanda Suwardi/Debby Susanto becomes the first Indonesian athletes to reach the quarter finals of Blibli Indonesia Open 2018. The pair went past the second round, which was held earlier today, Thursday (5/7), after defeating the Thai pair, Dechapol Puavaranukroh/Sapsire Taerattanachai on a twoset match of of 21-15, 21-19 within the course of 39 minutes.

Ricky/Deby who managed to play well on the first game failed to replicate their form on the second game. There was a moment during the game where they were losing 14-17 to the opponent. Fortunately, they gradually stepped up their game and equalize the score to 18-18. In the end they managed to overturn the game to 21-19 win for the Indonesian pair.

“I am grateful to be able to win today’s match. The first game was convincing, I feel confident since the beginning as I’m very focused on the game. So, I was fully prepared for the first game. We were losing at the beginning of the second game but I tried to remain calm and direct my focus on each points,” as expressed by Ricky after the match.

“During the second game, we tend to show a defensive pattern for the plays, thus we were losing at the start of the game. So, I told Debby to attack more like the first game,” said Ricky.

“Actually we have applied all the patterns told by the coach for today’s match. The key to today’s win was to be more patient than the opponent, because the Thai pair has an almost similar pattern to ours,” adds Debby.

On the other hand, Ricky/Debby, who made their debut in the beginning of 2018, claimed to have gotten the chemistry between each other.

“We have gotten a good chemistry between us for now, and we have stepped up our game, too,” said Debby.
