Unfortunately, one of the mainstays that won 2016 All England Open 2016, Praveen Jordan/Debby Susanto, has to stop in the first round, Tuseday (13/6) after defeated by Denmark's Mathias Christiansen/Sara Thygesen, with 21-15, 19-21 and 11-21.
Apart from the defeat, three out of five mixed doubles survived are Hafiz Faisal/Shela Devi Aulia, Alfian Eko Prasetya/Annisa Saufika, and Fachryza Abimanyu/Bunga Fitriani from Pelatnas.
While the other two are the 2016 Rio Olympic gold medalists, Tontowi Ahmad/Liliyana Natsir and non Pelatnas players; Irfan Fadhilah/Weni Anggraini.
This makes Liliyana, the most senior athlete, comment on the young players. She said it is the time for young seeds to show their worth.
"Indonesian mixed doubles is not about us (Tontowi/Liliyana) and Praveen/Debby. But it is the time for tandem players to show what they have in this Superseries Premier level tournament. Hopefully those who survive can keep on performing well," said Liliyana.
