Surprisingly, the top seeded men's doubles from Indonesia and the world's number one; Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo had to leave early in the first round of the BCA Indonesia Open (BIO) Superseries Premier 2017.

The 2017 All England Open champion, 2017 India Open SS, and 2017 Malaysia Open SSP I had to surrender on Wednesday (14/6) from Denmark's Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup in two straight games, 16-21 and 16-21 in a 30 minute match.

"I didn’t play comfortably, perhaps it was a bit windy but that cannot be made as an excuse since everyone experienced it too. Well the point is my performance was not optimal," said Marcus.

"One thing for sure we were lacking self-confidence because they played well too," Marcus added.

Meanwhile, Kevin who was actually playing decently admitted he had problems on his shoulders that he had been having since last Sunday, (11/6) during training.

"I was cautious in that match because the condition I didn't tell yesterday. I having shoulder injury during training on Sunday, so I played carefully. So it's not about pressure," Kevin stated.

As a result, one Indonesian Badminton Association target via Marcus/Kevin cannot be fulfilled. However, Kevin said there were many of them who haven't played and can be counted on. "Other than us, we have Angga/Ricky, Ahsan/Rian. Hopefully they can keep on winning," Kevin said.
