The hard fought battle occurred in the first set, both players to keep their scores leading. Lin Dan took the lead, 10-14, which then Tommy took over 15-14 before finally Lin Dan concluded the set with his victory, 21-19.
"In the first game, I was too rushy and a bit in hurry to defeat him," Tommy said.
In the second game, out of the blue Lin Dan's performance was not any better, even worse than the first game. He inaccurately placed his shots and made his own mistakes.
Tommy took advantages of Lin Dan's blunder by gaining more points, widening the gap between the two players until the second game interval with 11-14 before finally Tommy emerged a winner, 21-8.
"The second game, Lin Dan seemes losing the my rythm and it helped me gain points," Tommy said.
Tommy managed to stun Lin Dan in the hard fought third game thanks to his confidence, 21-16.
The crowd fanfare rumbled when Tommy concluded the match and emerged a winner over Lin Dan.
"I tried to focus and relax in the third set," he said.
"It is a pleasant to beat Lin Da, and I am happy to prove I am not to be underestimated," Tomny added.
In the second round starting tomorrow, Thursday (4/6), Tommy takes on either Marc Zwiebler (Germany) or Scott Evans (Ireland).
