Unseeded Prannoy was able to beat the first seed in a two straight match 21-10 and 21-18 in 40 minutes.
Prannoy had not thought that if he finally could beat Lee for the first time he always lost in two previous meetings; in Denmark Open 2016, and India Open 2013.
"I am very happy to beat Lee, I tried to play aggressively [and it was] the key in the game because if I applied rally Lee must have dominated the match. The point is I played as I had been expected," said Prannoy.
The results does not necessarily make Prannoy become too confident to win the next matches. He said he would stay focus on quarter-final tomorrow, Friday (16/6).
"I will focus on the next game first. Although many seeded players have lost, there are many other tough players," he concluded.
In the quarter-finals, Prannoy will meet the winner between Jonathan Christie (Indonesia) and Chen Long (China). They will compete for a quarter-final ticket tonight.
